This week I am all about the mermaid party fun! Mermaids are a little tricky to make into sweets so I decided to make jellyfish marshmallow pops. They are super easy to make and adorable for an under the sea or mermaid party. I have been on a marshmallow pop kick, as much as I love cake pops they are more time consuming and when you are a busy mom shortcuts are always good. Spending hours in the kitchen is not always an option and no bake is the best! I have also been on a candy eye kick lately. I promise I will take a break from the candy eyes. I think this is my third blog post using candy eyes in a week haha. They just make everything so cute and my daughter loves them!
When I was a kid I basically thought I was a mermaid. I loved to swim and would put a ring around my feet to keep them together like a mermaid tail. Anyone else do this? When you live in Arizona as a kid you are basically a mermaid living in the water half the year. It is disappointing when you grow up and realize you will never actually be a mermaid. Thanks mom and dad, you told me I could grow up to be anything I wanted to be! While I have come to terms with the fact that I will never be a mermaid I have not given up on sparkles and mermaid party fun! This weeks theme is mermaids! I am bringing the mermaid party fun starting with these adorable underwater mermaid party favors with printable gift tags. I am a little late starting this week since my daughter just started school again and I am getting back in a routine. School seems to start earlier every year. I promise I will get better in the coming weeks, I have some fun things planned! Yes, I am a creative type and sticking to a schedule is tricky when you are on mermaid time(I’m guessing mermaids are on a relaxed schedule). These mermaid magic jars are so easy to make and are a perfect mermaid party favor! Kind of like a snow globe but with glitter and under the sea creatures.
These big pencil decorations are so fun for back to school! Perfect for taking pictures, parties or just playing. I tried to get pictures this morning before Keira’s first day of Pre-Kindergarten. Of course as usual we were running late and didn’t get pictures. Tomorrow is another day and I am determined to get a few cute pictures! Sometimes the simplest tasks seem impossible with a kid. Especially pictures since they can’t stand still. For pictures I just love oversized props. Oversized or teeny tiny decorations are fun! Kids love oversized props for pictures and these big pencil decorations are lots of fun.
Keira starts school this week! Last year she would eat everything in her school lunch besides the fruits and vegetables. I am struggling with getting her to eat fruits an vegetables. Especially the vegetables, anything green she will avoid like the plague! Fruit I can work with a bit. I wanted to make her fruit for school lunches fun with silly faces and animals. For some reason candy eyes just make any food more fun. If I have to add a dot of candy to get my kid to eat fruit I will!
For the silly faces I just cut an orange in half, put on candy eyes, used a blueberry for the nose and half a strawberry cut in a fun shape for the mouth. I then wrapped it in press and seal to keep it together in her lunch box. You can also cut up the orange in slices and hold it together with plastic wrap.
This week my daughter Keira starts Pre-Kindergarten. It is crazy how next year she will already be in kindergarten! Time really does fly by. We decided to celebrate with some apple marshmallow pops! Instead of actually being productive and getting everything organized we made some cute marshmallows :). Luckily Keira’s not at the age where we have a huge list of supplies she needs for school. These marshmallows are a fun and easy way to get kids excited for back to school. You can put them in school lunches for the first day too!
I love pirate parties it is a classic theme that never goes out of style. When I was a kid my dad built a pirate ship playground in the backyard. How cool is that?! We would dress up like pirates and play pretend pirates all the time. That is why pirates have a special place in my heart. Acting like a pirate is so much fun and having a pirate party is fun too! I made these pirate party diys with foam paper. Then kids can have sword fights without anyone getting hurt! Really easy to make and fun for parties or just pretending to be a pirate aaarrggh.
Yo ho yo ho a pirate’s life for me! Maybe not a pirate’s life with all the pillaging and lack of bathing but a pirate party I can get on board with. Especially the pirate party desserts! This week my blog is having a pirate party with desserts, ships and sword diys. We just came back from Disneyland last week. Pirates of the Caribbean is one of my favorite rides at Disney. It was also the only ride I took my daughter Keira on that she we afraid of. She loved the Haunted Mansion. For some reason she loves ghosts but the pirates were a bit too much for her. I wouldn’t be doing my job as a parent if I didn’t frighten my child a little at some point. She is going to need something to talk to her therapist about when she grows up(I hope you can sense my tone, I’m kidding). For the pirate party desserts I made pirate cupcakes arrgghh and treasure chest brownies.
What better to make in the middle of summer than melted ice cream cake pops! Everything melts here in Arizona if it is left out for more than 5 seconds. With all of my ice cream party fun this week a lot of melting is going on. I accidentally left a mini chocolate in my purse the other day. Most people carry chocolate with them at all times right?! It was melted all over everything in my purse after being outside for just half an hour. Nothing like the feeling of reaching in your purse to come out with a melted chocolate fingers.
I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream cone balloons! This month is Ice Cream Month and Sunday was National Ice Cream Day. I thought that was cause for a celebration and this entire week is ice cream week on my blog, woohoo! You can check out my other ice cream posts for Pizookie Pops: http://valeventgal.com/2015/07/pizookie-pops/ and Donut Ice Cream Sandwiches: http://valeventgal.com/2015/07/donut-ice-cream-sandwich/. I am having a lot of fun with ice cream and celebrating this national holiday to the fullest. I wonder who gets to determine what day is ice cream day and all the other fun made up days. That sounds like an amazing job, where can I sign up?! My daughter likes to decide when it’s ice cream day too. She will wake up and say today is ice cream day, I want ice cream. Then I will say it is 6 in the morning and I am pretty sure it is banana day that’s what my calendar says. Then we go back and forth finally settling on Cheerios. This is a common occurrence in my house. She is persistent, I will give her that and she knows it’s best to ask before I have had my coffee. Needless to say she has loved all of the ice cream fun we have been having this week. I am on her good side for now.
Have you had the deliciousness that is a pizookie? If not you are missing out. It is a “pizza cookie”, basically a giant round chocolate chip cookie with ice cream and hot fudge on top. Pizookies are one of my all time favorite desserts! I wanted to make them into a form that is a bit easier to eat and not so ginormous. A regular pizookie you need a bunch of people to eat. Unless you are trying to pull a Man vs Food and eat the entire thing, then more power to you. Pizookie pops are so fun for parties and I love how the tops can be used as stands!
