Halloween is coming up. Okay, it isn’t for over a month but I am in full Halloween mode. It is still too early for some of the Halloween preparations but I am still getting ready. I haven’t done a lot for fall but the Halloween decorations are coming out! We have spiders, cats, black and orange all around. I’ve been talking to my daughter about Halloween, but I don’t want to get her too excited too early. Then she will get impatient and want to wear her costume in September. Right now she says she wants to be a witch. This is her third or fourth idea. She went from pumpkin to princess, then princess superhero and now she wants to be a witch. I probably wont be able to get her costume until a week before Halloween because she will change her mind. My creative 4 year old! Every witch needs a good witches brew. I wanted to create some Halloween desserts but I have to try them out before the holiday to see what works. The witches brew pudding in chocolate bowls were so easy to make and perfect for Halloween. I was going to say they are adorable but I don’t know if eyes and bones are adorable. I guess in candy form anything can be adorable!

Recently coed baby showers have become really popular. Some people prefer it to be just the ladies but I love the idea of including the father to be in the shower. He did help make the baby! I think a lot of men are worried that baby showers will be cheesy and cutesy. Baby shower games especially get a bad reputation for being silly. There definitely are a few games that are ridiculous and I prefer to avoid. However, I think baby shower games can be really fun. The key is to not do too many games and keep the party flowing. I think 2 or 3 games is a good amount. Make sure not to make a girly theme vintage, glitter and lace probably wont work as well for a coed shower. If you go with a theme make it more subtle and neutral colors some of these unique baby shower themes are awesome for coed showers: http://valeventgal.com/2016/04/unique-baby-shower-themes/ Food and drinks are essential with a coed shower. Bbq is a great option, pizza, subs, meats, and cheeses. Small bites work too, just avoid tea time foods!
I am in baby shower mode right now! There are a few showers coming up that I am helping out with. For my sister’s baby shower years ago, my niece is now six, time flies! We had mini cakes that looked like baby blocks. They were adorable but definitely beyond my amateur skill level of baking. I wanted to recreate this concept for a baby shower but find a simpler way to do it. I decided to try to make baby shower rice krispies treats. I think they look really cute and were definitely easy to make. They aren’t perfectly smooth with the krispie treats but it is such a time saver to not actually bake a cake. The great thing is you could make these for any baby shower theme just change the colors depending on the theme.
Cinderella week on the blog is coming to an end ;(. If you haven’t seen my other Cinderella posts check them out, free printable http://valeventgal.com/2015/08/cinderella-printable/ and Cinderella slipper cupcakes http://valeventgal.com/2015/08/cinderella-slipper-cupcakes/. This Cinderella centerpiece is so easy to make and all you need is wired lace ribbon and glue! It is a little carriage made out of ribbon! I saw this ribbon and just fell in love with it. I bought it not knowing what I would use it for. Then when I started working on Cinderella ideas I thought this ribbon would be perfect! I love creating something beautiful out of simple materials.
Having a kid makes me very nostalgic. I love watching the older Disney movies with my daughter that I loved when I was a kid. I also love all of the music. My daughter Keira could do without me singing along to all of the songs but I can’t help it! A dream is a wish your heart makes is my favorite song from Cinderella. The words still ring true as an adult. Adults don’t listen to their dreams and hearts as much as children. I definitely have been working on recapturing some of myself and childlike spirit. My daughter has brought that out in me a lot and it really is the best to re-experience some of the joys of childhood through your child. OK enough of the cheesiness, I told you I get nostalgic! This Cinderella printable is great for a bedroom decoration or a Cinderella party. Maybe next to the pretty Cinderella slipper cupcakes ;), if you haven’t seen them yet check them out so much sparkly goodness! I put one of these printables in my room and in my daughters room. I have not seen the new Cinderella movie but it is on my list to see. I absolutely love the dress with all the butterflies, my daughter got a new Cinderella dress. This is her third Cinderella dress that is how much she loves the character. The first Halloween that Keira got to choose her own costume she dressed up as Cinderella.
This weeks theme on the blog is Cinderella! I just had to make these Cinderella slipper cupcakes for the occasion. You can also make high heel cupcakes like this for a girls night, white ones for a bridal shower and I know a few ladies who would love these for their birthday! I must confess I am not much of a heels person. Yes, I love the look of pretty heels, especially the sparkly ones. However, my feet hate them and I am the biggest klutz on the planet. I have fallen on my butt while wearing heels more times than I care to admit. Those who can’t wear heels make pretty high heel cupcakes! I love the light blue Cinderella color! I could also see hot pink or red for the adult ladies.
My brunch week on the blog is coming to an end :(. If you missed my other brunch posts you can see my bacon flowers here http://valeventgal.com/2015/08/bacon-flowers/ and bacon and eggs banner here http://valeventgal.com/2015/08/bacon-eggs-banner/. I just had to make some brunch printables to go with the brunch fun. I would not survive without coffee! I really do not know how some people just don’t drink coffee. That is why I needed the but first, coffee printable. I love a good coffee bar and I will give you a few ideas of what you need for the ultimate brunch coffee bar! I also am a fan of mimosas. I love mimosas because they always make brunch feel like a celebration! My mimosa me printable is perfect for a mimosa bar. In the morning there aren’t a lot of words in my vocabulary so mimosa me should get the job done! I really like any kind of bar taco bar, mimosa bar, coffee bar, waffle bar, ice cream bar and bar bar. Bars are the best for parties because you can set them up to look all pretty and people get to choose the way they like their food and drinks. It can be hard to cater to everyone’s taste when you are hosting a party. I say let them decide how they want things.
Who else loves brunch as much as I do?! I think most people like brunch and breakfast foods. I am not the best cook, baking I can do but cooking I find more challenging. Maybe I’m just more motivated by sweets! However, breakfast foods I can kind of pull off. Not anything crazy complicated, although my bacon flowers are impressive ;)! Seriously, check them out here if you haven’t yet: http://valeventgal.com/2015/08/bacon-flowers/ Bacon, eggs, french toast, and pancakes oh my, so many yummy brunch options. I made this bacon & eggs banner for a brunch. It was the perfect simple decoration that I whipped up with cardstock paper and ribbon.
National bacon day is coming up on August 31 in case you didn’t know. It is an important holiday to celebrate! Really any excuse to eat more bacon ;). I wanted to show my love for bacon with a bacon bouquet. I found an easy way to make bacon look pretty in a “flower” bouquet. This is perfect for breakfast in bed for a birthday or if you are making brunch. This week on my blog the theme is brunch! I love, love brunch. Bacon, mimosas, and french toast, does life get any better?! Come back and join me for all of the brunch fun! Back to bacon talk. I didn’t add anything to the bacon because bacon stands on its own. You could add a little maple syrup for maple bacon or brown sugar to sweeten it. Life’s just better with bacon!
My love of mermaids runs deep and that has not changed since I was five, maybe younger. Of course as a mom I introduced my daughter to The Little Mermaid. I watched it a million times when I was a kid and now I watch it a million times with my daughter. Does life get any better than that?! Seriously it brings me so much joy to see her get as excited about the same movie I loved as a kid. Now I have to be the sea witch instead of Ariel but still I love it! Luckily when I’m planning parties I get to act like a kid and use my imagination. Adults do not get to do this enough. I made this beautiful mermaid party backdrop for a candy table. It could also work for a photo backdrop or wall decoration. The materials are cheap but it is a bit time consuming to make. Definitely worth the effort on this one! You could also make this fan backdrop for different themes with different colors. I think it is perfect for a mermaid, under the sea or beach theme since the fans resemble shells.
