Thankful Tree

Thankful Tree! Write down what you are thankful for on a leaf and add it to the thankful tree

I am jumping on the bandwagon and making a Thankful tree! I have an abundance of fall leaves so why not! I was tempted to take all of my fall leaves, put them in a pile and jump in it. The fake ones are as close as I get to falling leaves since I live in Arizona. There is still time I might still make a pile of leaves ;).

Any way to show thanks is good and I like the idea of using it for decoration as well. Earlier this week I made thankful balloons that were a lot of fun, you can see them here: http://valeventgal.com/2015/11/thankful-balloons/ I am using both the tree and balloons for Thanksgiving. We are adding leaves to the thankful tree throughout the month that we are thankful for to keep up the grateful spirit. I have a lot to be thankful for and some of them are silly things like pizza but sometimes it’s good to acknowledge the little things too! read more

Halloween Party Crafts and Treats

I can’t believe it is finally Halloween week! I have been so busy with Halloween projects for the past month. I thought it would be a good idea to put them all together in case you missed anything. These Halloween party crafts and treats are all easy to make for a fun Halloween party. We are definitely prepared for Halloween, at least with decorations and desserts. I still don’t have a costume but I always throw something together last minute. I keep seeing so many adorable diy costumes I just haven’t been able to decide. My indecisiveness leads to procrastination and then I will be up late the night before making a costume haha. My daughter on the other hand has been wearing her costume for the past couple weeks. She wants to wear it all the time! Hopefully it will make it to Halloween in one piece. read more

DIY Washi Tape Serving Tray. Serve up drinks on a festive serving tray made decorative with washi tape

Happy Friday! Since it is the weekend and I am on weekend time this post is a little late. It is also super duper easy because that’s what weekends are for! If you are entertaining and doing cocktails this is a fun DIY Washi Tape Serving Tray. I love washi tape because it can dress up a lot of things and you can make easy decorations with not a lot of skill needed. I used this dollar store plate I had and dressed it up for cocktails. Sprinkles are also always a nice touch too ;).

DIY Washi Tape Letters

DIY Washi Tape Letters for a kids room or birthday party decor! - Copy

DIY washi tape letters are a great decoration for a kids room or for birthday parties. My daughter Keira is obsessed with letters right now. She has to point out any time she sees a letter especially K for Keira. She wanted a K for her room and we will probably get the rest of the letters in her name to hang up in her room. I first wanted to try out a K. I was thinking glitter letters but didn’t want to deal with the mess. My place still has glitter from the last glitter project ;). Decorative tape or washi tape are so easy to work with and pretty. read more

Fall table runner

| Decorations, DIY, Fall

Fall table runner and hello fall pumpkin

I wanted to brighten up the table for fall so I decided to make this fun fall table runner. It was really cheap ($2) and easy to make. It doesn’t have to be just for fall but orange is a good fall color. Plus I have been seeing a lot of orange with black and white this fall. Orange is my daughters favorite color right now. It’s funny since orange is not most kids favorite color. However, this time of year is perfect for it with all the fall decor and of course Halloween! Now she can enjoy all of the orange decorations everywhere! By the time the next holiday rolls around she will probably have a new favorite. Although my favorite color as a kid was purple and that one stuck. You never know, kids are unpredictable! read more

Art Party Hats

Art Party Hats! Let everyone show off their artistic side with doodle art party hats - Val Event Gal

When I was a kid I was a big doodler. In class I was the kid day dreaming and doodling in my notebook. Apparently not a lot has changed because I still am a dreamer and doodler. I loved art and took a few art classes. One summer I had signed up for an art class. Then I broke my right arm a week before it started(I’m right handed). I still took the class but I had to learn how to draw with my left hand. It took me forever to complete the projects but I did it! My love for art runs deep and of course I love art parties! This week my blog theme is art parties and today I am making art party hats.  I thought it would be fun to make party hats part of the party activities. Plus it is wearable art! It could be fun to do this with regular coloring pages in the theme of the party and cut out the pictures to glue on plain party hats. Since I am going with an overall art theme doodle art party hats sounded fun! Don’t they look adorable with just plain paper and a few scribbles?! Sometimes the simplest things can turn out great. I was thinking of making a hat template and that could be used for the hat. Then I realized I have no idea how to make a hat template and I can just cut it out from the shape of a regular cheap hat. I’m all about making it easy for myself and others! read more

Glowing Eyeball Halloween Balloons

| Decorations, DIY, Halloween

Glowing Eyeball Halloween Ballooons - Val Event Gal - Copy

I’m really feeling all of the eyeballs I have been seeing in the Halloween decorations.I want to make an eyeball everything! Okay, I’m a little bit weird and I enjoy that for Halloween you are allowed to be weird. Adults don’t get to have enough fun, dress up and be weirdos. Halloween is all about embracing your inner weirdo and bringing it out to play. Not in a creepy way or anything, but a fun way! Although I do get to dress up on occasion with my daughter. Usually with hats and scarves. I am typically the bad guy because well when is mommy not the bad guy?! My Ursula impression from The Little Mermaid is spot on because I’ve been working on it for about a year. Anyways back to the eyeballs. Seeing all of the eyeballs I thought maybe I can make some sort of eye ball decorations from what I have at my place. Balloons and tissue paper are something I always have a ton of! All I needed was some glow sticks. These glowing eyeball Halloween balloons are perfect decorations for a party! You can’t make them too far ahead of time because the glow only lasts for so long but you can put them together really fast before a party. read more

Big Pencil Decorations

Big Pencil Decorations for pics and parties - Val Event Gal

These big pencil decorations are so fun for back to school! Perfect for taking pictures, parties or just playing. I tried to get pictures this morning before Keira’s first day of Pre-Kindergarten. Of course as usual we were running late and didn’t get pictures. Tomorrow is another day and I am determined to get a few cute pictures! Sometimes the simplest tasks seem impossible with a kid. Especially pictures since they can’t stand still. For pictures I just love oversized props. Oversized or teeny tiny decorations are fun! Kids love oversized props for pictures and these big pencil decorations are lots of fun. read more

Ice Cream Cone Balloons

| Decorations, DIY, Ice Cream

Ice Cream Cone Balloons - Val Event GalI scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream cone balloons! This month is Ice Cream Month and Sunday was National Ice Cream Day. I thought that was cause for a celebration and this entire week is ice cream week on my blog, woohoo! You can check out my other ice cream posts for Pizookie Pops: http://valeventgal.com/2015/07/pizookie-pops/ and Donut Ice Cream Sandwiches: http://valeventgal.com/2015/07/donut-ice-cream-sandwich/. I am having a lot of fun with ice cream and celebrating this national holiday to the fullest. I wonder who gets to determine what day is ice cream day and all the other fun made up days. That sounds like an amazing job, where can I sign up?! My daughter likes to decide when it’s ice cream day too. She will wake up and say today is ice cream day, I want ice cream. Then I will say it is 6 in the morning and I am pretty sure it is banana day that’s what my calendar says. Then we go back and forth finally settling on Cheerios. This is a common occurrence in my house. She is persistent, I will give her that and she knows it’s best to ask before I have had my coffee. Needless to say she has loved all of the ice cream fun we have been having this week. I am on her good side for now. read more
