My love of mermaids runs deep and that has not changed since I was five, maybe younger. Of course as a mom I introduced my daughter to The Little Mermaid. I watched it a million times when I was a kid and now I watch it a million times with my daughter. Does life get any better than that?! Seriously it brings me so much joy to see her get as excited about the same movie I loved as a kid. Now I have to be the sea witch instead of Ariel but still I love it! Luckily when I’m planning parties I get to act like a kid and use my imagination. Adults do not get to do this enough. I made this beautiful mermaid party backdrop for a candy table. It could also work for a photo backdrop or wall decoration. The materials are cheap but it is a bit time consuming to make. Definitely worth the effort on this one! You could also make this fan backdrop for different themes with different colors. I think it is perfect for a mermaid, under the sea or beach theme since the fans resemble shells.

When I was a kid I basically thought I was a mermaid. I loved to swim and would put a ring around my feet to keep them together like a mermaid tail. Anyone else do this? When you live in Arizona as a kid you are basically a mermaid living in the water half the year. It is disappointing when you grow up and realize you will never actually be a mermaid. Thanks mom and dad, you told me I could grow up to be anything I wanted to be! While I have come to terms with the fact that I will never be a mermaid I have not given up on sparkles and mermaid party fun! This weeks theme is mermaids! I am bringing the mermaid party fun starting with these adorable underwater mermaid party favors with printable gift tags. I am a little late starting this week since my daughter just started school again and I am getting back in a routine. School seems to start earlier every year. I promise I will get better in the coming weeks, I have some fun things planned! Yes, I am a creative type and sticking to a schedule is tricky when you are on mermaid time(I’m guessing mermaids are on a relaxed schedule). These mermaid magic jars are so easy to make and are a perfect mermaid party favor! Kind of like a snow globe but with glitter and under the sea creatures.
Keira starts school this week! Last year she would eat everything in her school lunch besides the fruits and vegetables. I am struggling with getting her to eat fruits an vegetables. Especially the vegetables, anything green she will avoid like the plague! Fruit I can work with a bit. I wanted to make her fruit for school lunches fun with silly faces and animals. For some reason candy eyes just make any food more fun. If I have to add a dot of candy to get my kid to eat fruit I will!
For the silly faces I just cut an orange in half, put on candy eyes, used a blueberry for the nose and half a strawberry cut in a fun shape for the mouth. I then wrapped it in press and seal to keep it together in her lunch box. You can also cut up the orange in slices and hold it together with plastic wrap.
I love pirate parties it is a classic theme that never goes out of style. When I was a kid my dad built a pirate ship playground in the backyard. How cool is that?! We would dress up like pirates and play pretend pirates all the time. That is why pirates have a special place in my heart. Acting like a pirate is so much fun and having a pirate party is fun too! I made these pirate party diys with foam paper. Then kids can have sword fights without anyone getting hurt! Really easy to make and fun for parties or just pretending to be a pirate aaarrggh.
I love playing with any kind of flowersl! This silk flower centerpiece anyone can make. I always thought this look would be hard to make yourself until I discovered floral foam. It makes the shape for you and you just have to put in the flowers. You can make a centerpiece or floral balls to hang up. You can make them with fresh flowers as well. You would just need floral foam for fresh flowers, cut them a few inches from the base and no gluing required! Either way it looks really pretty for a centerpiece. I used a medium sized vase I had. You can use dollar store vases or candle sticks to give it more height. I love the look on candle sticks!
I love the look of flower petals everywhere at weddings and parties! When I started working at weddings and with floral design I realized how expensive it can be to have flower petals everywhere. Silk flowers can be a great alternative to fresh flower petals and they last longer. I was really surprised how pretty the fake flowers at the dollar store were. Their fake roses were perfect for these glitter flower petal push pops. They also had a variety of colors you could make these in any color. I love confetti push pops and really anything push pop. This will not be my last push pop project! The confetti ones are fun but can leave a huge mess. With the silk flower petals it’s a pretty look and less clean up. Plus really easy to make. I mean anyone can make these. If you don’t use glitter it’s even faster! I used glitter because my motto is everything’s better with glitter! Flower petal push pops would be perfect for weddings, bridal showers, baby showers or really any party.
A while ago I saw a centerpiece with flowers in a pineapple. Since then I have wanted to try that out. It is trouble when I am having people over and I see pineapples on sale. I bought like five pineapples! I didn’t use fancy flowers just some flowers I thought looked pretty from the grocery store. At first I was going to do painted pineapples with flowers in them. I still think that would be fun with bright color combinations, maybe next time ;). Instead I did painted pineapples and pineapples with flowers in them separately for variety.
4th of July is all about the fireworks and firecrackers! Also it’s about the food, there will be so many BBQs going on this weekend it is the best time! So I decided to put those two wonderful things together in a fun topper. These firecracker cupcake toppers with star sprinkles inside turned out so cute! I used them for cupcakes but they would be perfect for a cake or even on some fruit. Sometimes my watermelon needs some sprinkles to make it extra appealing.
I live in Arizona and they are selling firecrackers and fireworks all over the place. Call me crazy but I personally don’t want to be setting off fireworks in the desert when it’s dry and 110 degrees. I like watching fireworks but I will stick with the professional show. Actually with a 4 year old I think we probably wont be up late enough for any kind of fireworks. We will just have to settle for all the food and pretend firecrackers. That’s more my style anyways.
I just cannot believe it is already going to be the 4th of July this week! It really snuck up on me. I might say that too much because a lot of holidays somehow sneak up on me. Besides Christmas since they start putting out decorations in July, you can’t miss that one. I wanted to make a little craft with Keira but I was trying to avoid a mess. What says 4th of July more than fireworks?! It seems like all of our crafts are messy and as much as I love making a huge mess I don’t always like to clean up. This fireworks craft was so easy to make and can also work as a decoration for the 4th. All you need are pipe cleaners in any colors you want (I went with red, silver and blue) and scissors.
Since Easter we have had a ton of extra Easter eggs lying around. My daughter still loves to put things inside them and hide them. The rest of the Easter stuff is all put away but a few of the eggs have stayed out. When getting ready for Cinco De Mayo I got the idea to make maracas out of the extra Easter eggs. I love getting extra use out of things I have around the house. It worked out really well and was super easy.
What you need:
plastic Easter eggs
dried lentils, beans or rice to fill the eggs with
