A while ago I saw a centerpiece with flowers in a pineapple. Since then I have wanted to try that out. It is trouble when I am having people over and I see pineapples on sale. I bought like five pineapples! I didn’t use fancy flowers just some flowers I thought looked pretty from the grocery store. At first I was going to do painted pineapples with flowers in them. I still think that would be fun with bright color combinations, maybe next time ;). Instead I did painted pineapples and pineapples with flowers in them separately for variety.

Sticking with my pineapple obsession/theme I have an easy pineapple pinata. This pineapple pinata is a pull string made with a paper lantern and tissue paper! You could also use the paper lanterns for decoration if you don’t want to have a pinata. I’m all for the pinatas! Yes, sometimes I like to really hit a pinata but I also like to pull a string and have candy fall from the sky :). Living the dream, most of my dreams involve candy. I have attempted to make a pinata before but it was a bit too complicated for me. This is easy breezy and looks really cute!

Pineapple cupcakes! By now if you follow my blog you will know I have a slight obsession with cupcakes! Yes, it is a bit of a problem but they are just so cute and yummy at the same time. The first step is admitting you have a problem, right? I have not mastered other desserts but cupcakes are just my favorite! I am also obsessed with pineapples they are just so fun and I love the pineapple decorations trend! I decided to make these cute cupcakes that look like pineapples. I also tried to make pineapple frosting but that failed. Instead I made a buttercream frosting with a hint of coconut. Buttercream is the best for piping. These are perfect for a pineapple party, a luau and summer celebrations!
Pineapple coconut yum! This drink is so yum I decided that’s what it has to be called. It is like a vacation in a glass or in this case in a pineapple! Why drink from a regular cup when you can drink from a pineapple?!
The past couple of weeks have been unbearable hot in Arizona. We had a week or so with tempatures all over 110, yuck! I just want to bathe in a tub of ice all day and drink frozen drinks. Luckily I will be getting out of the heat for a little bit soon. It is basically mandatory to go on vacation in the summer when you live in Arizona. To make things a little bit more tolerable I have been making lots of frozen drinks and swimming almost every day. I have also been on a huge pineapple kick I love to eat them, look at them, and decorate with them! When I have a nice pineapple drink I can imagine(or hallucinate from the heat) that I am on a beach drinking out of a pineapple. I had a whole weekend without my daughter, which is a rare occasion as a single mom. I decided to make it like a little staycation pool, pineapple drinks and a mani/pedi. I missed my daughter but it was amazing to just relax! This pineapple drink I made was delicious, definitely super fruity and girly because if I’m going to go fruity I go all out! You can make it with or without alcohol, I went with it because I was on “vacation”. I drank it out of a pineapple but I didn’t want to go through the effort of scooping out the middle of the pineapple so I cut off the top and bottom and put a cup in it. Just bring the cup you are going to use when picking out pineapples to get the size right.
4th of July is all about the fireworks and firecrackers! Also it’s about the food, there will be so many BBQs going on this weekend it is the best time! So I decided to put those two wonderful things together in a fun topper. These firecracker cupcake toppers with star sprinkles inside turned out so cute! I used them for cupcakes but they would be perfect for a cake or even on some fruit. Sometimes my watermelon needs some sprinkles to make it extra appealing.
I live in Arizona and they are selling firecrackers and fireworks all over the place. Call me crazy but I personally don’t want to be setting off fireworks in the desert when it’s dry and 110 degrees. I like watching fireworks but I will stick with the professional show. Actually with a 4 year old I think we probably wont be up late enough for any kind of fireworks. We will just have to settle for all the food and pretend firecrackers. That’s more my style anyways.
I just cannot believe it is already going to be the 4th of July this week! It really snuck up on me. I might say that too much because a lot of holidays somehow sneak up on me. Besides Christmas since they start putting out decorations in July, you can’t miss that one. I wanted to make a little craft with Keira but I was trying to avoid a mess. What says 4th of July more than fireworks?! It seems like all of our crafts are messy and as much as I love making a huge mess I don’t always like to clean up. This fireworks craft was so easy to make and can also work as a decoration for the 4th. All you need are pipe cleaners in any colors you want (I went with red, silver and blue) and scissors.
Last summer I made hot dog cupcakes for a summer party and they were a huge hit! I think any cupcakes that resemble savory food are just too much fun! As a kid I was the pickiest eater and hot dogs are one of the few things I would eat so I am very familiar with them. I know they aren’t the healthiest food but somehow I survived living off of them(and mac and cheese) until I was 12. Of course Keira is super picky too. She says she likes hot dogs but what she really likes is ketchup buns and eats around the actual hot dog. It seems that anything you did as a kid you seem to get back and then some as a parent, right?!
It’s almost time for Cinco De Mayo! I’m not sure if everyone does a big thing for Cinco but in Arizona we certainly do. Any excuse to eat more Mexican food is fine with me! I always have a Mexican blanket in my car so I am basically ready for a fiesta at all times. I wanted to do a little Arizona spin on CInco De Mayo. I made these fun little cactus cupcakes that would be perfect for a fiesta with kids. I can always find a way to make cupcakes a part of any occasion. I also made them wear candy sombreros You could just put the “sombreros” on the cupcakes without the cactus or just on a plate with no baking required. The cacti(for some reason I dislike the word cacti I am I the only one?) just make me smile especially with the silly faces!
With Earth Day this week I was thinking about my own carbon footprint and ways I could reduce it. I am constantly planning parties and making decorations. I try to use materials that will last and make decorations that can be used repeatedly. I am always working on ways to make parties more Earth friendly. I recycle as much as possible and hold on to any extra scrap of paper or tiny piece of ribbon. For any party there is a lot that goes into it and yes usually a lot of trash. I still try to implement the old saying we learned in elementary school reduce, reuse and recycle! See I still remember a few things from school ;). Some of this might be no brainers but it is good to consider the environmental impact of your event and do what you can to make the Earth happy! Here are 10 ways to make your party more Earth friendly:
Since Easter we have had a ton of extra Easter eggs lying around. My daughter still loves to put things inside them and hide them. The rest of the Easter stuff is all put away but a few of the eggs have stayed out. When getting ready for Cinco De Mayo I got the idea to make maracas out of the extra Easter eggs. I love getting extra use out of things I have around the house. It worked out really well and was super easy.
What you need:
plastic Easter eggs
dried lentils, beans or rice to fill the eggs with
