Summer is all about the ice cream treats. My daughter likes to eat ice cream year round but now that it is warm out she has doubled her ice cream intake. The best way to keep us cool and not grumpy in the summer is to feed us ice cream. However, sometimes we get bored with just putting ice cream in a bowl. When you are eating it or serving it all summer you need to get creative. That is why I found these creative ways to serve ice cream from around the web. So many great ideas that make me think how did they think of that?! I will definitely be using some of these simply brilliant ice cream ideas this summer.

Ice Cream Cake Cupcakes

Ice Cream Cupcakes

My birthday is in the middle of summer. As a kid the middle of summer in Phoenix is about 115 degrees. That meant for my birthday parties we always had pool parties. It also meant lots of ice cream. I think because of that my favorite cake has always been ice cream cake. I was never a big cake eater. For some reason I didn’t love cake. As an adult my tastes have expanded and now bring on the cake! Even though I didn’t love cake if you put some ice cream on cake I loved it. My daughter also is obsessed with ice cream! She is so funny she still is putting Christmas sprinkles on her ice cream because I bought an excessive amount of them. She will be celebrating Christmas in July with her Christmas sprinkles. I don’t make cakes very often but I love making cupcakes. That is why I made these fun ice cream cake cupcakes. They have all of the fun elements of an ice cream cake in a cupcake size.

Donut Ice Cream Bowls

| Donuts, Ice Cream

donuts and ice cream

Sometimes I just like to combined tasty things together to see what happens. It’s getting warmer out here, in fact today is 106 degrees, yuck! That means it is time for some ice cream. I also want donuts so what did I do, I used the donut as an ice cream bowl! Yes, it is possible and delicious you can eat the whole thing! I just used glazed donuts but you can use any kind of donuts. You could do sprinkle donuts and funfetti ice cream. You could do chocolate and chocolate! The possibilities are endless and I will try them all out! I’ve been on a bit of a donut kick lately and my daughter absolutely loves ice cream for dessert. This was a good compromise, the best of both worlds!

Modelo and Corona with Taco Cookies.jpg

Cinco de Mayo is one of my favorite holidays. I grew up in Phoenix and we always have a big celebration for Cinco de Mayo. It is the perfect time of year to be outside by the pool. We have a pool party celebration with lots of food, of course beer, family, and friends. I love Mexican beer! Corona Extra was the first beer I ever tried and I immediately loved the clean, crisp taste. I also love the rich, refreshing flavor of Modelo Especial. It is a family favorite. For our Cinco de Mayo celebration everyone brings Mexican dishes to indulge in. Usually I am in charge of desserts. I am an expert at eating Mexican dishes but not at making them. Desserts are my favorite to make for all occasions. I love desserts that look like savory foods and that is why I thought it would be the perfect time to make cookies that look like little tacos. In the past I have made cupcakes that look like hot dogs and cookies that look like pizza. Now it’s time to tackle taco cookies! They add some extra fun to the dessert table! These have all the elements of a real taco in sweet dessert form. They also pair very well with Modelo Especial and Corona Extra. The flavors of these beers taste amazing with a little sweet bite. I don’t know about you but I need a little sweetness to balance out all of the spice from a Cinco de Mayo meal. My dad makes his specialty spicy shrimp that come with a warning label because of the heat level. Not everyone can handle the heat. I usually can have one before my mouth is on fire!

Funfetti Taco Cookies

| Cinco De Mayo, Cookies, Desserts

I love tacos and I love cookies so I just had to put the two together. I made these adorable funfetti taco cookies that have fluffy frosting and colorful sprinkles all in a little taco shape! You can make these will all store bought foods not form scratch or make it all from scratch. I actually used the store bought marshmallow frosting and it was not too shabby. I usually make a homemade buttercream but sometimes I just don’t have time. Lack of time doesn’t stop me from making cute treats though! These are really fun to serve for a fiesta, Cinco De Mayo, or Taco Tuesday fun. They would be perfect for a girls night too. I also like to make real tacos because they are one of the few things that I can make and don’t have to keep looking at a recipe. Not to brag but I am the slowest cook around. I constantly forget how much of what to put in then I improvise and it all goes downhill from there. Luckily these cookies you can improvise with and they will still turn out yummy. Get creative with the frosting and sprinkles! You can do different colors of frosting and any color combination of sprinkles or shapes of sprinkles.

Spring is my favorite and least favorite time of year all wrapped into one. I love it because, where I live in Phoenix, the weather is perfect! The flowers bloom and we get fields of beautiful yellow flowers. It is also the best time to get outside before the dreaded heat takes over. However, when the beautiful flowers start to bloom so do my allergies. All I want to do is be outside all the time, but my allergies say nope, no way, not going to happen. Do other people have talking allergies or is it just me? Since early adulthood I have experienced seasonal allergies. Unfortunately my allergies affect my ability to enjoy those beautiful flowers and the outdoors during spring. My daughter cannot stay inside when it’s nice out and I do my best to just deal with my constant runny nose.

Graduation Party Games

| Uncategorized

Graduation Games Penny Game

Graduation is such an exciting time and reason to celebrate! I remember how excited I was to graduate and move on to the next exciting stage of my life. I have some fun graduation party game ideas for both high school and college graduation parties. You don’t need anything too complicated or cheesy to have some fun at graduation. You can pick a couple games you like from the ideas I have that fit your crowd.

  1. Pennies. Bounce or throw a penny into a jar.
  2. Twister. Adults playing Twister is always fun!
  3. Yard games. Corn Hole and Giant Jenga are always a hit.
  4. DIY Yard Dice. Make large dice from large square boxes painted white if you want with dots drawn on with a sharpie.
  5. All about the grad game. Some one can ask the graduate questions about themselves like who was their favorite teacher, least favorite teacher, favorite spot at school, where they want to travel to, and what they wanted to be as a kid when they grew up. Then everyone has to answer these questions to guess what the graduate would say, whoever gets the most right wins.
  6. Bed sheet volleyball. Use a bouncy ball, balloons, or an actually volleyball to play volley ball with a bed sheet as the net.
  7. Paper airplanes you are going places game. People have to make paper airplanes and fly them to see who gets them to travel the farthest.
  8. College essentials scavenger hunt! Go around to neighbors to find some of the essentials for college such as ramen, mac & cheese, crackers, and other college foods. You can get creative with funny items to find too.
  9. Pizza eating contest! Pizza is a big part of the college experience. See who can eat a slice or two of pizza the fastest.
  10. Pizza money game. Put money in a jar including dollars, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies, then count how much it is. People have to guess how much it is. The winner gets to keep the money.
  11. Glow stick hide and seek. Nighttime hide and seek with each person getting a glow stick and hiding outdoors. You are never too old for hide and seek!
  12. Funny photo booth! Big sunglasses, boas, and fun stuff to take pictures with. It is not a game but still a fun activity and easy to put together.
  13. College or after college advice. This can be funny like a don’t do what I did with funny or embarrassing stories from guests.
  14. Kick school goodbye! Soccer with a fun bouncy ball. You can write subjects in school to kick.

Coffee Tumbler Gift With Free Printable Tags

It’s been a long year for teachers and it is time for us to show our appreciation! My daughter is almost done with Kindergarten and she has had such a sweet teacher this year. I have a lot of respect for anyone that can control a class full of tiny humans. It must be exhausting being a teacher! My dad was a teacher and his parents were as well. Teaching might be in my blood but the teaching gene skipped me. It’s hard to give a gift that can show full appreciation and really be useful for the teacher.
