Unicorn Cupcakes with colorful hair - Val Event Gal

Woohoo it is unicorn week! I have been seeing so many cute unicorns around lately. My daughter is big into unicorns and my little ponies. It works out great because unicorns seem to be trendy right now. I personally am naturally drawn to bright colorful things and unicorns fit right into that. How can you not be happy when you see a colorful unicorn? If they don’t bring a smile to your face you might be dead inside. If only they were real! Since I can’t have a real unicorn I will stick to making unicorn cupcakes and decorations ;). These unicorn cupcakes are so adorable, I just love how they turned out! They are sleepy dreaming unicorns. read more

Watercolor Tissue Paper Flowers

Watercolor Tissue Paper Flowers. - Val Event Gal

Lately I have been really into watercolors. I still have no skills when it comes to watercolor but I love them. My daughter loves them too and she is honestly probably better than I am. I am not afraid to admit it. I love painting but am not the best painter ever. When it comes to art I would say my cartoon and colored pencil skills are probably the best. When I was a kid for a while I wanted to be a cartoonist. Somewhere in between the time I wanted to be a princess and veterinarian. It is important to be well rounded with your interests! I am well rounded or indecisive, but I’m also a glass half full kind of gal so I will go with well rounded. Anyways back to watercolors. Even if you don’t have a lot of skill to make anything, like me, they still look so pretty!. Although some people can take it to the next level with watercolor for the watercolor tissue paper flowers you don’t need skills. I love making things with tissue paper and these tissue paper flowers are so really easy to make and so pretty. You can hang them up or use them as table centerpieces. You could also group them together for a dessert table backdrop. Go crazy and get creative! read more

Art Party Hats

| Art party, Decorations, DIY

Art Party Hats! Let everyone show off their artistic side with doodle art party hats - Val Event Gal

When I was a kid I was a big doodler. In class I was the kid day dreaming and doodling in my notebook. Apparently not a lot has changed because I still am a dreamer and doodler. I loved art and took a few art classes. One summer I had signed up for an art class. Then I broke my right arm a week before it started(I’m right handed). I still took the class but I had to learn how to draw with my left hand. It took me forever to complete the projects but I did it! My love for art runs deep and of course I love art parties! This week my blog theme is art parties and today I am making art party hats.  I thought it would be fun to make party hats part of the party activities. Plus it is wearable art! It could be fun to do this with regular coloring pages in the theme of the party and cut out the pictures to glue on plain party hats. Since I am going with an overall art theme doodle art party hats sounded fun! Don’t they look adorable with just plain paper and a few scribbles?! Sometimes the simplest things can turn out great. I was thinking of making a hat template and that could be used for the hat. Then I realized I have no idea how to make a hat template and I can just cut it out from the shape of a regular cheap hat. I’m all about making it easy for myself and others! read more

Splatter Paint Cake

| Art party, Desserts, DIY

Splatter Paint Cake with bright colors for an art party or inside out party - Val Event Gal

Have you ever tried splatter painting? It is a really fun way of painting that doesn’t require any actually painting skills. The end result always looks really cool! It is not for the neat freaks because there is no way to avoid a mess when you are splattering paint around. When I was a kid I had a splatter paint room for a while and I loved it. My parents always let my sister and I paint our rooms. Being the indecisive person that I am I definitely went through quite a few different color combinations. I had purple and turquoise, multi-color splatter paint, and black grey and silver during my teen angst years. The splatter paint was definitely the most fun to do. I haven’t painted any walls in years! I think once my daughter and I are in a house we can do some painting in her room maybe splatter paint or a mural if I’m feeling ambitious. For now I will just stick to cake painting. I thought the splatter paint look would look cool for a cake. It was definitely fun to make but also really messy. If you make a splatter paint cake just make sure to have a bunch of plastic wrap or tinfoil laid out to avoid the massive mess. I love making a good mess, cleaning it up is a different story. The finished product looks really great and you do not need to have decorating skills to make it. Just the ability to throw some candy melts or frosting on the cake! This is a great project to do with kids because they have a blast! Perfect for an art party or inside out party. I could see this for a teen party just change the colors to match any theme! read more

Glowing Eyeball Halloween Balloons

| Decorations, DIY, Halloween

Glowing Eyeball Halloween Ballooons - Val Event Gal - Copy

I’m really feeling all of the eyeballs I have been seeing in the Halloween decorations.I want to make an eyeball everything! Okay, I’m a little bit weird and I enjoy that for Halloween you are allowed to be weird. Adults don’t get to have enough fun, dress up and be weirdos. Halloween is all about embracing your inner weirdo and bringing it out to play. Not in a creepy way or anything, but a fun way! Although I do get to dress up on occasion with my daughter. Usually with hats and scarves. I am typically the bad guy because well when is mommy not the bad guy?! My Ursula impression from The Little Mermaid is spot on because I’ve been working on it for about a year. Anyways back to the eyeballs. Seeing all of the eyeballs I thought maybe I can make some sort of eye ball decorations from what I have at my place. Balloons and tissue paper are something I always have a ton of! All I needed was some glow sticks. These glowing eyeball Halloween balloons are perfect decorations for a party! You can’t make them too far ahead of time because the glow only lasts for so long but you can put them together really fast before a party. read more

Witches Brew Pudding in Chocolate Bowls

| Desserts, Halloween

Witches Brew Pudding in Chocolate Bowls

Halloween is coming up. Okay, it isn’t for over a month but I am in full Halloween mode. It is still too early for some of the Halloween preparations but I am still getting ready. I haven’t done a lot for fall but the Halloween decorations are coming out! We have spiders, cats, black and orange all around. I’ve been talking to my daughter about Halloween, but I don’t want to get her too excited too early. Then she will get impatient and want to wear her costume in September. Right now she says she wants to be a witch. This is her third or fourth idea. She went from pumpkin to princess, then princess superhero and now she wants to be a witch. I probably wont be able to get her costume until a week before Halloween because she will change her mind. My creative 4 year old! Every witch needs a good witches brew. I wanted to create some Halloween desserts but I have to try them out before the holiday to see what works. The witches brew pudding in chocolate bowls were so easy to make and perfect for Halloween. I was going to say they are adorable but I don’t know if eyes and bones are adorable. I guess in candy form anything can be adorable! read more

Coed Baby Shower Games

CoEd Baby Shower Games

Recently coed baby showers have become really popular. Some people prefer it to be just the ladies but I love the idea of including the father to be in the shower. He did help make the baby! I think a lot of men are worried that baby showers will be cheesy and cutesy. Baby shower games especially get a bad reputation for being silly. There definitely are a few games that are ridiculous and I prefer to avoid. However, I think baby shower games can be really fun. The key is to not do too many games and keep the party flowing. I think 2 or 3 games is a good amount. Make sure not to make a girly theme vintage, glitter and lace probably wont work as well for a coed shower. If you go with a theme make it more subtle and neutral colors some of these unique baby shower themes are awesome for coed showers: http://valeventgal.com/2016/04/unique-baby-shower-themes/  Food and drinks are essential with a coed shower. Bbq is a great option, pizza, subs, meats, and cheeses. Small bites work too, just avoid tea time foods! read more

Baby Shower Rice Krispies Treats

Baby Shower Rice Krispies Treats. Cute baby block rice krispies treats - Val Event Gal

I am in baby shower mode right now! There are a few showers coming up that I am helping out with. For my sister’s baby shower years ago, my niece is now six, time flies! We had mini cakes that looked like baby blocks. They were adorable but definitely beyond my amateur skill level of baking. I wanted to recreate this concept for a baby shower but find a simpler way to do it. I decided to try to make baby shower rice krispies treats. I think they look really cute and were definitely easy to make. They aren’t perfectly smooth with the krispie treats but it is such a time saver to not actually bake a cake. The great thing is you could make these for any baby shower theme just change the colors depending on the theme. read more
